Qualifications
-Possess emotional maturity, stability and common sense.
-Be objective and flexible.
-Exhibit self assurance and assertiveness.
-Be able to keep information confidential.
-Be able to work within established guidelines.
-Have the ability to gather facts, observe, listen and analyze written material.
-Be able to write clearly and concisely and use a computer.
-Be willing to commit 5-10 hours a month for a minimum of 18 months.
-Be 21 years of age with a high school or GED diploma.
-Complete 30 hours of training provided by our organization with court room observation.
Upon successful completion of application, background and reference checks, personal interview, pre-service training, court observations, the Volunteer Advocate may be formally accepted at a swearing-in ceremony.

What is the CASA volunteer's role?
A CASA volunteer provides the judge with a carefully researched background of the child to help the court make a sound decision about the children's future. CASA volunteer's help determine if it is in a child's best interest to return home to his or her parents or guardians, stay in foster care, or move to permanent adoption. The CASA volunteer follows through on the case until it is permanently resolved.
To prepare a recommendation, the CASA volunteer talks with the child, parents, family members, social service workers, school officials, health providers and others who are knowledgeable about the child's history. The CASA volunteer also reviews all records pertaining to the child such as school, medical and case worker reports and other documents.
Is there a "typical" CASA volunteer?
CASA volunteers come from all walks of life with a variety of personal, educational and professional backgrounds. There are more than 52,000 CASA volunteers nationally. Aside from their CASA volunteer responsibility, 50% are employed in regular full-time jobs: the majority tend to be professionals. 82% of the volunteers nationwide are women; 18% are men.
How much time does it require?
After the initial training and court room observation of 30 hours. CASA volunteers usually spend about 5-10 hours a month on their case.
